It premiered on March 25, 2022, with generally positive reviews and debuted number one in 92 countries on the platform. It was also the most viewed show on United States television screens for three weeks per Nielsen Media Research. The show's record-setting second season, which surpassed season one in viewership, cemented Bridgerton as a franchise per Entertainment Weekly. The series as a whole gave the romance genre its own cinematic universe with the female gaze front and center according to Slate. Before the first season aired, the show was already in pre-production for a second season which was officially announced in January 2021.
