'Poltava' - a poem by the Russian genius poet, 'the sun of Russian poetry', playwright and prose writer A. S. Pushkin (1799–1837). There are two lines in it: love (Mazepa - Maria) and historical (Peter - Mazepa - Charles XII). Personality The author was very interested in Mazepa. He even wanted to name the poem after him. But the main theme for Pushkin still remained the theme of the Russian victory over the Swedes. Illustrations for the poem were drawn by Taras Shevchenko in 1840. The work is a mandatory part of the school curriculum. During his lifetime, Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin earned himself a reputation as the greatest poet of Russia, whose work influenced the development of both Russian and and world literature. The greatest merit of the brilliant poet is also that he became the creator of the modern Russian literary language.
